Terms of Use

Last updated 16 July 2026

These terms cover your use of the Cairn app (“the app”). Cairn is operated by Nilsen Lab (“we,” “us”). By using the app, you agree to these terms.

Who can use the app

You may use the app only if you can form a binding agreement with us under the laws that apply to you. If you are a minor in your country, you may use the app only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app for your own enjoyment on devices you own or control. The app and its content remain our property.

Acceptable use

Please don’t reverse engineer, decompile, resell, or redistribute the app, or use it in any way that breaks the law or the App Store / Google Play terms. If you use Companions, choose a display name that isn’t offensive or misleading, and don’t use pebbles to harass anyone.

No warranty

The app is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. We don’t guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cairn and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Because the app stores your habit data only on your device, we are not responsible for data lost when the app is uninstalled or its data is cleared, so use the built-in JSON backup to keep a copy.

App stores

Your use of the app is also subject to the rules of the store you downloaded it from (Apple App Store or Google Play). This agreement is between you and us, not with Apple or Google, and those stores are not responsible for the app or its content. We, not the app stores, are solely responsible for the app and for any support or maintenance.

Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated by the U.S. Government as “terrorist-supporting,” and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Norway, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of Norway will have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the mandatory protections of the law of the country where you live.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated terms. The date above shows when they last changed.
